Black Sun
— Johanna Jaeger
6th – 15th October 2017
For Playground London, Johanna Jaeger has developed a site-specific installation that will be visible after sunset. Adapting the classical form of lightbox presentation, Playground's shop size windows will be lit from behind and carry an image that turns the space into an uncanny sight: a sun, shining at night. black sun draws from Jaeger's interest in the conditions of photography, with light as its core element. Showing the negative of an image taken during daytime at night, the inversion of the image mirrors the dichotomy of daylight and darkness.

About
Johanna Jaeger is a Berlin based conceptual artist working with installation and photography. Her work addresses the poetics of the ordinary and the corporeal quality of art in architecture. With modified imagery taken from her surroundings, her work questions the reliance on logic and habitual parameters of perception. Johanna graduated 2014 with an MFA from Hunter College New York. Her work has been exhibited internationally, in solo exhibitions at Galeria Starter Warsaw, Schwarz Contemporary Berlin, Grand Palais Bern, Platform Brooklyn and Plattenpalast Berlin, as well as in group exhibitions at Museum für Photografie Braunschweig, Kunstverein Speyer, Kunstsaele Berlin, Schwules Museum Berlin, 205 Hudson Gallery New York, Kunstraum Seilerstraße Hamburg and Zeppelinmuseum Friedrichshafen.
