The Dyer's Kitchen
— Lola Lely
26th – 28th May 2017
After the success at Selfridges, Lola brought her natural dyes making workshops to Playground, giving an insight into the fascinating world of dried herbs and their particular properties. Entering into the ‘Dyer’s Kitchen’, Lola was showing how to create concentrated dyes from the domestic and natural world - from tumeric spice to oak wood - and how to make a dye-bundle to use at home. Scraps of fabric were then dyed and stitched together to create an unique patchwork apron. A week leading up to the workshop Lola was in residence at Playground, creating an evolving installation with cloth and natural dyes, grinding and making natural dyes through the week.
